Los Jugadores, 'The Players', a half an hour documentary that went to five international film festivals and won one award.
We had an incredible international crew helping us, predominantly students from the CCC film school (Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica) (a special mention to Ernesto Madrigal & Natalia Bermúdez); and in collaboration with ADJATEO, an association dedicated to promoting and supporting indigenous sports in Oaxaca.
After 6 months of Sundays bussing it to the far reaches of Oaxaca (and a mezcal or two...), we eventually shot almost everything over two long weekends. We'd like to thank all the players and their families who were incredibly generous with us. It's due to them that we came to learn the importance of 'Pelota Mixteca' (the Mixtec ballgame), a game whose roots extend far into their ancestral past and still takes centre stage for many villages there.
